Hawaiian Malolo Bird TeasersTM are not your typical pelagic trolling attractor. These hand-crafted teasers are designed with life like shape and action, strength, agility, and stunning fish attracting colors in mind.

Hawaiian Malolo birds are rigged on exceptionally robust stainless cable to maximize the action of the teaser. We highly recommend all Malolo birds are soaked in freshwater after every use, hung upside down from the swivel to thoroughly dry while pulling the rubber bead down the wire toward the bird. While this will extend the life of the rigging, we also suggest the wire is replaced at a regular interval depending on the amount of use.
ACTION: Designed to constantly ride upright, fluttering side to side on the wings, We seldom see it dive underwater even in windy conditions
POSITION IN THE SPREAD: Long rigger or Stinger (Shotgun) positions are ideal
IDEAL LURE LEADER LENGTH: This is a personal preference with some people using ~6’ (2m) but the Malolo Team having great success with ~12’ (4m)
BEST LURE: Any lure will work behind a Hawaiian Malolo Bird Teaser but when you factor in the best trolling positions, 6-9” skirted bullet head style lures are ideal. The bird provides more action and attractiveness to the straight running lures (easy to eat!) in the back of the lure pattern
Other advantages...
- Malolo Birds provide more tension on the line to keep the long lures from crossing over other lines on windy days while trolling perpendicular to the wind
- Malolo Birds allow you to easily see and set your long lures. You won’t have to free spool your lure then reel in quickly to make it skip to see where it is. Clip on a bird and have easy visuals on your lure positioning
- Malolo Birds allow you to troll smaller lures (4-6”) than you may otherwise by adding that extra tension to keep them in place at the back of the lure pattern. It also provides more attractiveness to those small lures when fish are shy and you need to run your lures a few waves further back than you normally would. When targeting those hard to hook fish, also try running a longer and lighter breaking strain leader on your lure as that often helps entice a bite in conjunction with the malolo bird teaser
- Flying Fish are one of the most common pelagic food sources in the offshore saltwater environment, so why not troll a very close imitation to fool even the most finicky fish?
